The suborbital of Aethaspis is nearly flat and lacks the medially curved lower edge of Phlyctaenaspis. The anterior, suborbital process is rela- tively deeper, and the posterior "blade" is not as deep as in Phlyct- aenaspis and has nearly straight, sub-parallel, dorsal and ventral edges. The dorsal margin of the "blade" has a narrow, unornamented external surface for articulation with the inner side of the postorbital. The posterior edge is thick and must have had a harmonic suture
