Hafoty, Llansadwrn, Anglesey: a timber-framed Medieval house (R) eventually became the E wing of a Tudor H-plan mansion with central hall & W wing (L)
Hafoty, Llansadwrn: a timber-framed Medieval house (R) eventually became the E wing of a Tudor H-plan mansion after the addition of an open hall (centre) & then a 2-storey W wing (L) with a grand solar (private withdrawing-room &/or sleeping chamber) on the first floor. The solar wing was built of stone, the earlier timber house & hall had their walls rebuilt in stone. Owned by the Bulkeley family of Beaumaris but excavated, conserved & restored by Cadw. Reputed oldest surviving domestic building in Anglesey; a house was recorded on the site in 1352 but earliest elements of this house now considered to be mid-C15th.
