Jewish, Muslim & Christian speakers wait at demonstration at Sudanese Embassy in London marking 5 years of fighting in Darfur.

Several thousand demonstrators, including many Sudanese, turned up to protest outside the Sudanese Embassy opposite St James's Palace in London as part of a global day of action to mark five years of fighting in Darfur. It was organised by an international coalition of human rights groups including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Save Darfur Coalition. The rally highlighted the fact that over a million Sudanese children have been caught up in the bloodshed, displacement and killing. Among the speakers were survivors from the conflict, faith leaders from the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities (Giles Fraser, Vicar of Putney), Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, MP and Conservative international development spokesman Andrew Mitchell MP.
