Recklinghausen, Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - EMSCHERLAND construction project, a 37-hectare water and nature experience park at the water junction of the Rhine-Herne Canal (right) and the renaturalized Emscher River (center) on the city border of Recklinghausen with Castrop-Rauxel. The ecological focal point at the confluence of the Suderwicher Bach and the Emscher will also be a future garden for the International Garden Exhibition 2027. Before renaturation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater channel, a combined sewer with surface water and wastewater. On the right, a new bridge is being built - jumping over the Emscher -, a foot and cycle path bridge over the Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal. In the back the Uniper power plant Datteln 4.
