Thetread must be free from deepand irregular wrinkles, slag,chill cracks and sweat or beadsin throat, and swollen rims. 3. The wheels must show July, 1904. Cast IronWheels. clean gray iron in the plates,except at chaplets, where mot-tling to not more than one-half (i/o) inch from same willbe permitted. The depth ofpure white iron must not exceedone (1) inch nor be less thanone-half ( y% ) inch in the middleof the tread, and shall not beless than three-eighths (%)inch in the throat, for wheelsweighing six hundred (600)pounds. It shall not exceedone (1) inch in the middle ofthe tread nor be less than seven-sixteenths (7-16) inch in thethroat for wheels weighing sixhundred and fifty (650) pounds,and shall not exceed one (1)inch in the tread or be less thanone-half ( % ) inch in the throatfor wheels weighing seven hun-dred (700) pounds. The depthof white iron shall not varymore than one-fourth (%) ofan inch around the tread on therail line in the same wheel. 4.
