C, to Palatka,Pla., through Savannah. In 1877he bought out the business andformed, with John L. Johnson, thepresent strong house of John Flannery & Co. In 1866 he visited his mother in Europe, and in 1867 maiTied Mary E. Norton, niece of Mrs. JohnMcMahon. He was, in 1870, an organizer of theSouthern Bank of the State of Georgia, a directorfrom the first, and acting vice-president in 1881,and since then its president. Its building waserected in 1886 under his direction. A memberof the Savannah Cotton Exchange since 1877, liehas served as its director, vice-president two terms,and its president, and the Exchange buildingwas constructed under a committee of which hewas a member. He has been director of the U. Cotton Press Co.; the T^ler Cotton Press Co.; theSavannah Hotel Co., which built the De Soto hotel in1889; an original organizer of the Jasper MonumentAssociation in 1878, and its president in 1881 to theunveiling of the monument in 1888; president of theCatholic Library Hall Association, and active in itsbuilding, and in the erection of the Catholic cathe-dral ; member of the Hibernian Society since 1866,and once vice-president. In 1872 he was electedcaptain of the Iiish Jasper Greens, and is di-rector of the Savannah Construction Co., SouthBound Railroad Co., and other enterpri
