Sincethen the Chapel has been modernised, its interior areaenlarged, the ground floor raised and re-pewed, and anew organ, costing ^430, placed in the gallery. Thechapel was re-opened on December 4th, 1904, WilliamBrimelow preaching special sermons. Like other Churches,it has had difficulties to surmount, but there have beenseasons when there was a flood tide of the Spirit. Notablywas this the case in 1879, when Robert Berry, the thenConnexional Evangelist, conducted services, and over 100were converted. Many remained steadfast, and are. SMITH STRKKT. Though hewas only 56 when hedied he could lookback on 40 yearsdevoted labour toChurch and Church, in JamesFirth, gave the Con-nexion its first Treasurer, and John Wild acted as Secretaryand Assistant Secretary. In the present Superintendent ofthe school. John Firth Wood, the Connexion has its presentFinancial Secretary. In 1896 the Annual Meeting was heldat the Church, and this year it welcomes the historic 100thmeeting. /
