Surveying seabirds on Inchkeith, Scotland, took me down the beaches of the island. Close to the city of Edinburgh, vast amounts of litter had washed up in the bays. This gull nest was in a particularly plastic-strewn corner of the beach, a stark reminder of how wildlife is having to adapt and suffer to survive in a human-dominated world.
