Sir Balin must fight the guest who entered Camelot. After he has defeated him, Balin realizes he fought Sir Balan, his brother.

King Arthur is the legendary British ruler of the late 5th and early 6th centuries. There are many versions to Arthurian legend. In one, a maiden enters Arthur's court at Camelot dressed in a rich mantle trimmed with fur. As Arthur and his knights look at her, she lets the mantle drop to the floor and they see she is wearing a heavy sword, which she says will stay with her until a knight comes who can take it. All try, except for poorly clothed Balin, and fail. Balin asks for a chance - she agrees and he takes it easily. The lady asks for it back, but Balin wants to keep it. The lady regrets his decision as she says he will kill his best friend with it. Soon after, Balin leaves on an adventure, arrives at a castle where the custom is that every guest must fight. And so Balin must fight the other guest who just entered. He does and after he has defeated him, the two realize they are brothers. The other guest was Sir Balan. The illustration dates to 1916.
