The compact conical habit of this variety, combined with its silvery foli- age, renders it very distinct and desirable. Hibernica (Irish Juniper). A distinct and beauti- ful variety of erect, dense, conical outline, re- sembling a pillar of green; very desirable. Suecica (Swedish Juniper). A small-sized handsome pyramidal tree with yellowish green foliage; it is quite hardy. Savin (Sabina). A low spreading tree with hand- some dark green foliage; very hardy and suita- ble for rock work. VVi'K (Pinus). Austrian or Black A native of the mountains of Syria; a rapid growing species with long stiff dark green leaves; very hardy. (See illustration page 55). Scotch [P. Sylvestris). A native of the British Islands; very rapid in its growth. "A dark, tall evergreen," with bluish foliage and rugged shoots; hardy, and grows well even on the poorest soils. White (Sirobus.) The most ornamental of all our native pines; foliage light, delicate or silvery green; flourishes in the poorest soils. Excelsa (I,ofty Bhotan Pine).
