The student must have precept andexample. This book, therefore, has not been compiled to take the place of a competent teacher, but to beused under his instruction. The author offers this contribution to the subject with considerable diffidence. He is familiar with alarge number of the excellent manuals in use, and yet, after years of experience in vocal teaching, he feelsthat many will welcome such a method as is contained in these pages. The value of the method here set forth lies in its simplicity, completeness and systematic embraces whatever is best in prevailing
