Three-quarter rear view of a Thomas-Morse S-40 type airplane, used by the United States Government for advanced training during World War One. It had a wing spread of 26 ft. 6 in. and an overall length of 19 ft. 10 in. With a Gnome Mono soupape 100 engine, it had a high speed of 105 and a climb of 9500 ft. in 10 minutes. When equipped with a 30 Le Rhone engine and Marlin machine gun, it had a high speed of 97 and a climb of 7500 ft. in 10 minutes.
