Spermagonia hypophyllous on leaves of current year, not numerous, almost imperceptible, subepidermal, deeply immersed, almost spherical, 160 —2 80/u across, 190-240 ju high. Spermatia —2/lx. Aecia on leaves of current year, white, cylindrical, up to mm high, mm across, deeply sunk; peridial cells tetragonal or hexagonal, frequently with rounded corners, overlapping. 17 — 26 X 23 —41/l/, with outer walls thin and smooth, inner walls verrucose and thicker, 2—4/j. Aeciospores globoid or ellipsoid, 15 — X 14 —24)u (on an average, 22 X ), wall about 2/j thick, for the most part verrucose. Uredia — across, subepidermal, scattered in yellowish or brownish patches on leaves; peridium compressed — hemispherical, delicate. Urediospores colorless, clavoid, or wedge-shaped, narrowing at the base, truncate or, occasionally, rounded at the top. 26 — 55 X 11—20|j (in samples from the Far East 27 — 36 X 11—16m); walls smooth, thin (about 1/J), slightly thicker at the upper corners (sometimes 1 or 2 corners extending in spinules) (Figure 13). Teliospores mature at the beginning of summer on both sides of overwintered leaves (in one case Kamei found absolutely immature teliospores in November); intraepidermal, with longitudinal or anticlinal septa, usually 3- to 5-celled, occasionally nonseptate, 22 — 52 X 11—26/L(, wall thin, smooth, colorless. Basidiospores ovoid or ellipsoid, 11 — 13 X 7 —10)u. General distribution: USSR (Far East), Japan. On Abies mayriana Miyabe et Kudo — aecia in culture.
