In the skiagraphic study of the teeth and jaws there are in-volved, in addition to the common superficial lesions, manywhich lie deeper. These lesions cannot be detected withoutthe aid of the X-rays. The most important are impactionswhich have prevented eruption, abscesses at or near the roots,exostosis, now called by the dentists pericementosis, and pulpnodules. To these may be added extensive caries, especiallywhen under fillings, and large fillings in contact with or nearthe pulp. These conditions are often though not always pain-less.
