Prayer flags are strung across Moti Market to the Friendship Gate in Leh city. Friendship Gate is a Tibetan style structure at the entrance to Leh from Choglamsar high in the Himalayas. Leh is the capital city of the northern Indian Province of Ladakh. Roads in to Ladakh are closed throughout the winter due to high passes that are unreachable in winter. The valleys within are still inhabited by primarily buddhist communities, although there are many Kashmir muslims and some hindus as well.
