A formation of Boulton Paul Defiants, a British interceptor aircraft that served during the Second World War with the Royal Air Force. It was designed as a "turret fighter", night and day fighter, to concentrate firepower on enemy bombers which were not expected to have fighter escorts due to the distance from Germany to the United Kingdom. The Defiant had all its armament in a dorsal turret offering the ability to fire in most directions, but was vulnerable to the Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter. The Defiant was replaced mid-1942 by better performing night-fighters.

Among RAF pilots it had the nickname "Daffy".
