Female sheep farmer, Katie Fairlie, Angus Glens, Scotland
Farming 3500 acres at Kilburn and Tarabuckle in Glen Clova, Angus, on Airlie Estate, teamed with 700 arable acres, owned, at West Balmirmer Farm, West Lownie and Cotton of Lownie near Arbroath is the ideal set up for finishing hill sheep and cattle. Katie Fairlie has been in full charge of the hill farms for the past 25 years, while husband David and son Beau (27), a Cirencester Property and Management graduate, run the arable, property and renewable enterprises down country. The hill properties carry 1000 Blackface ewes and 100 cows and followers, which come up at the end of May with calves at foot and head back to the lowlands in October.
