Wandering albatross. Researcher with a wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) on its nest. This bird mates for life. It nests on a cliff top and a single egg and chick is incubated and raised every two years by the parents who take it in turns to incubate the egg. Wandering albatross wings can span 3 metres, allowing it to soar on the winds of the southern oceans and travel for hundreds of kilometres. It feeds at night as it floats on the sea surface and reaches down to catch its prey, mostly squid. Photographed on Bird Island, South Georgia, southern Atlantic Ocean.
