Knee ligaments. Computer artwork of a side view of the knee, showing some of the ligaments (white) connecting the bones of this joint. At top is the lower end of the femur (thigh bone). At bottom are the upper ends of the fibula (right) and tibia (left), the two lower leg bones. The ends of the bones are covered in cartilage that lubricates the joint. The patellar ligament (left) connects the patella (knee cap) and the tibia. The arcuate popliteal ligament (right) is y-shaped and branches to connect the head of the fibula to the femur (left, next to the lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle) and the tibia (right). Two other muscles are at top.
