Shin Makino, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Shirane-class destroyer JDS Kurama (DDH 144) executive officer, explains the significant of a traditional rice cake to Cmdr. Kirk Knox, forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) operations officer, on the quarterdeck aboard Bonhomme Richard. Bonhomme Richard is the lead ship of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group and is forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
