\Pot of gold\" rock, Mars. Intriguing because of its covering of nodules, the rock dubbed pot of gold (upper left) was shown by NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, which also took the photograph, to contain haematite (iron ore). It is possible that it was formed by water. The surrounding rocks show interesting erosion patterns which also imply the presence of water. Photographed at the base of the Columbia Hills, Mars, in June 2004."
