The two oldest sons were students at the university, and itmay be interesting to note in this connection, that almost the entirefamily for three generations have called Michigan their AlmaMater, a record which, at this date, has probably few graduation in 1897 from the engineering department Wool-sey Campau took up his profession in Detroit; Macomb Campauhas for several years been a special agent of the XorthwesternMutual Life Insurance Co. at Detroit; George Throop is in busi-ness in California ; and the widow and dausrhter reside in Detroit. 54. His forefathers belongedto the Clan Campbell in Scotland,who now look to the Duke ofArgyle as their chief. His im-mediate ancestors, however, cameto America before the French andIndian War. and when theRevolutionar_\- War liroke out in1776. many of the clan had settledin Cherry \ alley, not far west ofAlbany. They took up arms onthe side of the colonists and one,Col. Campbell. fell mortallywounded in the battle of Oriskanv. The Campbells have continuedto reside in Cherry A alley and vicinitv. They have prospered andmultiplied, luitil now it may be said, half of the people of OtsegoCounty, in the State of Xew York, are relatives of the subject ofthis sketch. A few years after the war of 1812 had come to a close, Campbell, having lost his wife and two dattghters, took histhree sons
