Trekking, Casa de los mikeletes house on the way to the San Adrián tunnel on the Aizkorri mountain range at the Basque Country, Goierri, Basque Highlands Basque Country, Euskadi Spain. In these arbitrary houses lived the miqueletes, the old guard of Gipuzkoa, in charge of collecting taxes, as well as controlling the entry of products from the neighboring provinces and fighting against smuggling on the borders with Navarra, Iparralde, Araba and Bizkaia. To fulfill their mission of pursuing smuggling, they were placed at surveillance posts on mountain passes. The main miquelet houses where taxes were collected and goods entering Gipuzkoa were controlled were located on the Calzada de San Adrián from Álava and at the border crossings with Navarra, in Lizarrusti and on the Araxes highway, Ilarrazu.
