In 1904, however, it was found that the 30thmeridian had been placed some 25 m. west of its trueposition in the maps used when the frontier was agreedupon, and that if it was maintained as the dividing lineit would cut off the Uganda Protectorate from access toAlbert Edward Nyanza while giving a corner of the Congoforest to Uganda. A survey commission was subsequentlydespatched, and in 1910 British, Belgian and German dele-gates met in Brussels to draw up a new frontier line. Germanywas interested in the dispute, inasmuch as the southern frontierof ihe Uganda Protectorate coincided with the northern frontier UGANDA £n)^ish Miles. of German East Africa. Moreover Germany, Great Britain andBelgium (as inheritor of the Congo State) had conflicting claimsin the region of Lake Kivu. On the 14th of May igio aprotocol was signed defining the new frontier as follows: Fromthe north end of Lake Kivu the Conge-German frontier turnseast by north, traversing the volcanic region of Mfumbiro,and crosses the summit of Mt Karissimbi to the summit of MtSabyino, where the British, Belgian and German frontiers Mt Sabyino the frontier between Belgian Congo and theUganda Protectorate goes in a direct hne north to Mt Nkabwe,and thence along the Ishasha River, to its mouth on the of Albert Edward Nyanza.
