Drought in Valdecanas reservoir, Spain, satellite image

Satellite image of drought in the Valdecanas reservoir, Spain. After a prolonged heatwave and dry spell, Spain's reservoirs, which supply water for cities and farms, were at under 36 percent capacity in the summer of 2022. The vein-like features in the water represent the exposed lake bottom. The receding waters of the Valdecanas reservoir famously revealed a prehistoric stone circle on an islet that is normally underwater, nicknamed the 'Spanish Stonehenge'. Image obtained by the Pleiades Neo satellite on 25 August 2022.
