Gibraltar. 21st Oct, 2014. The first of the Royal Naval deployments to Ebola crisis hit areas in Africa arrived in Gibraltar this morning at 0830hrs. RFA Argus, which has been deployed as a hospital ship arrived at the British Naval Base in Gibraltar from where it will continue on its journey to Sierra Leone. Gibraltar - 21st October 2014 - The first of the Royal Naval deployments to Ebola crisis hit areas in Africa arrived in Gibraltar this morning at 0830hrs. RFA Argus, which has been deployed as a hospital ship arrived at the British Naval Base in Gibraltar where it will continue on its journey to Sierra Leone. Using British expertise and local building contractors, the UK has committed to support 700 new beds in Ebola treatment facilities. The British deployment is expected to last over a 6-month period. RFA Argus is loaded with hospital beds, medical equipment and protective clothing to help the British military in the fight against the Ebola virus. It will act as an offshore base as the troops set up Ebola treatment centres in Sierra Leone.
