Although the London General Omnibus Company didnot consider it economical from the upkeep standpointto run Type B buses more than five years and althoughwar conditions did make it necessary to run them sevenyears more, it is noteworthy that these buses are stillin such shape as to be offered for further use in lighterservice elsewhere. However, permissionwas eventually obtained for the operation of a limitednumber of the fifty-four-seat Type S buses brieflydescribed in the following paragraph: In design, materials and general layout the TypeS is simply a longer Type K, the increase in seatingcapacity from foity-six to fifty-four being obtained byan increase in length from 22 ft. 6i in. to 24 ft. 7 and ash are the principal body framingmaterials. At first it was planned to make allowancesfor fifty-seven seats, as shown in the diagram on theprevious page. This caused overcrowding, with the re-sult that the seating arrangement was cut down tofifty-four. The longitudinal corner seats in the lower deckinstead of seating only two were made to seat three, thesame as in the Type K bus.
