Building a bridge over the Thames at Blackfriars, 1766. By Edward Rooker (c1712-1774). The building of the first fixed crossing at Blackfriars. The 995 feet (303 m) long toll bridge was designed in an Italianate style by Robert Mylne (1733-1811) and constructed with nine semi-elliptical arches of Portland stone. It took nine years to build and opened to the public in 1769.
