Shoe testing, 1930s. Shoe tester Everett L. Wallace, acting Chief of the Leather Section of the US Bureau of Standards, shown with an endurance shoe testing machine. The tester is designed to hold eight shoes and in conjunction with the conveyor belt below, is used to test the quality of the materials and construction of the shoes.
