Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree with edible fruit native to Southeast Asia. The fruit of the mangosteen is sweet & tangy, juicy, with fluid-filled vesicles & inedible, deep reddish-purple colored rind (exocarp) when ripe. Various parts of the plant have a history of use in traditional medicine to treat skin infections, wounds, dysentery, urinary tract infections & gastrointestinal complaints.
