These devices were composed of various herbs or lowshrubs and great ingenuity was displayed in their fashion-ing, amongst other forms being several varieties of laby-rinths. The praises of the dwarf box in this connectionwere sung by John Parkinson, herbalist to Queen Eliza-beth and King James the First. In his Paradisus hementions it thus: ...
