Playwright John Byrne and wife Jeanine Davies March 27th 2019 Paisley

John Byrne and wife Jeanine Davies visit Ferguslie Park, his place of birth on March 27th 2019 where he’s shown around by the Pals of the Privies. A local group who were sick of the over grown park for ever being trashed and fly tipped, so created a group to clean it up. John lived in No88 Dalkeith along with spells in Candren Rd and the Crescent before leaving paisley. The photo where you see the group from behind walking up the park, this would have taken John to Dalkeith. Though John said, “I don’t recognise any of this, not even a landmark” This was due to the fact Glen Coats Park was the private grounds and home to the Paisley thread mill owners, the Coats family, who’s faced off the entire grounds when John lived here back in the 1960. Then over the many years since John left Paisley, Ferguslie fell so deeply into decline the British royal family member, Prince Charles paid a visit to see what was then described as being the most deprived place in Brittan. This resulted in the mass demolition of old, damp and vandalised housing stock, where only the streets to which many where removed or added, leaving John and most who’ve left Ferguslie only to retune and find the place unrecognisable.
