Abandoned buildings and the top of a headframe still stand, relics of the copper mining operations in Butte, Montana. The Anaconda Copper Mining Company mined copper in Butte for almost 80 years and the area came to be called “the richest hill on earth.” The copper mining left the land and water across western Montana with a legacy of environmental damage.
