Melilotus officinalis, Opuntia polycantha Synopsis Vegetation structure appears to have changed little since 1927 other than some decline in the density of Opuntia polycantha. In contrast to the 1959 descrip- tion, Agropyron smithii is now the overwhelmingly dominant grass species. We also suspect, based on the 1959 photo as opposed to the written descrip- tion, that it was quite abundant then as well. 49
