Grow^th is quick: in a sampling, carried out in the Stirone Torrent on January 31, 1973, the individuals born in the preceding spring measured from 20 to 40 mm, with a mean of 28 mm ; two months later, the mean of the frequency distribution for the total lenght was 40 mm (fig. 3). The frequency distribution was divided into classes and showed that the life cycle is surely two years if not three at least for a very li- mited number of individuals. The inspection of the stomach content of the Stirone Torrent specimens has shown a diet essentially based on the larvae of Tri-.
