Founded in October 1970 Bavarian Forest National Park is the oldest National Park in Germany. Heavily influenced by forestry industry in former times since then Norway spruce-dominated highland forests, mixed mountain forests of European silver fir, European beech and spruce trees and water meadow spruce woods in the valleys are developing naturally Around Siebensteinkopf a Bark Beetle infestation destructed most of the Norway Spruce mountain forest but 20 years later the forest is naturally regrowing. Seit 1970 der Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald als ältester deutscher Nationalpark gegründet wurde, ruht die frühere Forstwirtschaft in diesem Gebiet. In den 1990er Jahren hat ein Borkenkäfer-Befall die Bergfichten-Wälder weitgehend zerstört. 20 Jahre später wächst dieser Urwald aus eigener Kraft wieder hoch.
