Moche wall sculpture, at the El Brujo site in Peru. This painted sculpture shows a figure from Moche mythology. El Brujo (The Sorcerer) is an archaeological site where three Moche huacas (temples) have been excavated. The temples were used for religious ceremonies such as burials and human sacrifices. The Moche were a pre-Hispanic people that lived in coastal river valleys in northern Peru. Their civilisation reached its height in the period from 100-700 AD.
