So barbarous was the treat-ment he gave the people of Zahara, that ever since that the Spaniardshave been greatly incensed. The brave Marquis of Cadiz, findingthat the truce was broken between the Moorish and the Spanishkings, attacked and captured Alhama, and held it, despite the effortsof the Moors to regain it; and this was the immediate cause of thedownfall of Granada itself. So our time was beguiled until the trainrolled into the station of Boabdilla, and we alighted for lunch, and tochange cars for the direct line to CHAPTER XII. ON THE WAY TO GRANADA. E came out of the station at Boabdilla just in timeto see our Spanish friend fall into the arms ofanother native of the land, and kiss him on bothcheeks. Then after hugging him, and being huggedin return, he dragged him up to us and introducedhim as a most illustrious descendant of a noble house, with whomhe had lived and travelled in Mexico. His name was Angel FadriqueGonzalez, with a Serior and Don prefixed, and as many titles affixedas you can string across this page. But he was a jolly, large-heartedgentleman, just the same, though he could nt speak English. He,too, was going to Granada ; so our party, now five in number, se-cured a compartment to itself, and we passed the time in tellingstories and recalling the history of the places through which wepassed.
