. Anatomischer Anzeiger. Anatomy, Comparative; Anatomy, Comparative. of division here as well as in the early testis. No case of mitosis has ever been seen at this stage. Later, the ovarian syncytium becomes enclosed in a follicle in the same manner as described above for the testes. The ovarian follicles are elongated and tube- like and open into the oviduct. Figure 8 re- presents three nuclei dividing amitotically in '~'^ a large follicle, and Figure 9, a section across a small follicle, less advanced in deve- lopment, though from an older proglottid. At these stages faint cell- boundaries appear in some cases though the greater part of the ovary is still in syn- cytial condition. After the formation of the follicles occasional ca- ses of mitosis appear as in the testes. These are rare, however, usually only a few in a whole ovary, but rapid multiplication of the nuclei is still going on as is indicated by the V f b Fig. / r^^ .-b. Fig. Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original Anatomische Gesellschaft.
