Air Force Lt. Col. Andrew Baer, 9th Air Refueling Squadron commander and KC-10 Extender pilot, communicates to fellow aircrew members prior to starting engines on the aircraft Jan. 11, 2024, at Travis Air Force Base, California. The crew flew the aircraft to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG), known as “The Boneyard,” at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. The aircraft, with tail number 79-1946, was designated as the 9th ARS’s flagship because of its history with the squadron.
