In the evening the rector and Mrs. Pitkin held a largereception for the members of the parish, the visitingbishops and clergy, and friends. After the consecration,the rector had the pleasure of seeing the church filledwith worshippers and many new families enrolled uponthe register. The Sunday school was largely increased,and the parish school, the rectors venture of faith, wasfairly successful, all the parochial societies were busy,and there was a desire to undertake such new work as St. Peters Church Original Interior, i860. The Building of the Third St. Peters 329 might seem most desirable for the strengthening anddeepening of the spiritual life of the parish. On November 9, i860, Mr. James Kidd and C. Potts were appointed a committee to secure anadditional sum of ten thousand dollars to be raised bya bond and mortgage upon the Church. It was alsoresolved that the surplus income of the Church afterpaying the necessary expenses, be irrevocably pledgedand applied to the payment of the interest of the mort-gage debt upon the Church, and the residue to a reduc-tion thereof, or to a sinking fund for the ultimateextinguishment of the principal thereof. On December14, i860, the rector was authorized to execute asmany bonds of the Church as may be necessary to pro-vide for the outstanding floating debt of the Church, ascan be taken up or made available.
