The stem of the stigmaria yjg was originally succulent, marked externally with roundish tubercles, sur-rounded by a groove, and arranged in a direction moreor less spiral—having a distinct axis, communicatingwith the tubercles by woody processes. Pterophyllum, or wing-leaf, belongs to the family ofCycadfe, but is seldom met with in the coal, and of whichthe leaves only are known.
