Ancient Egyptian false door of the tomb of Chenit, 2374–2191 BC, 6th Dynasty, Giza. Kunsthistorisches Muesum Vienna AS 8007. The false door in a tomb represented the symbolic interface between this world and the next. The tomb owner is shown once seated before a table with offerings and again at the bottom of both door jambs. The outer jambs carry depictions of the seven sacred oils which were used in the process of embalming the corpse.
