Milky Way over Tenerife telescope. The Milky Way (left) is our galaxy seen from the inside, forming a band of stars and nebulae stretching vertically across the sky. The building at right is the telescope dome of the Optical Ground Station (OGS) of the European Space Agency (ESA) at the observatory in Tenerife, on the Canary Islands. It is used for research in the field of inter-satellite optical communications, as well as carrying out surveys on orbiting space debris. The OGS was opened in 1995.
