On the outbreak of the RevolutionaryWar he recruited among his neighborsa company which was enlarged intothe Fourth Battalion of PennsylvaniaTroops, was elected its colonel, Jan-uary 3, 1776, and was assigned to Gen-eral John Thomas brig
