The Coates portal to the Sapperton Tunnel on the Thames Severn Canal on the Cotswolds near Coates, Gloucestershire

The Coates portal to the Sapperton Tunnel on the Thames Severn Canal linking the River Thames to the River Severn. When opened in 1789 the tunnel at miles was the longest canal tunnel ever built. The tunnel travels under the Cotswolds between the villages of Coates and Daneway. The Cotswold Canals Trust is hoping to restore the Stroudwater Navigation and Thames Severn Canal for the benefit of the public. This picture is made from 7 or 8 high resolution images seamlessly joined and is consequently capable of serious enlargement.
