At the time, this disease was invariably fatal. This scene was the subject of a wall painting (mural) by French painter Theobald Chartran (1849-1907), located at the Sorbonne, Paris, France. The original artwork or scene dates from Laennec's 1819 work 'De l'Auscultation Mediate'.
