This great crater like Hiatus in the earthscrust is one of the many anomalies of na-ture to be found in Arizona. It is locatedon Beaver creek about twelve miles aboveold Camp Verde and near the road leadingfrom the Verde valley to Flagstaff. It is ananomaly well worth the attention of the ge-ologist or the archaeologist. There are many descriptions of this won-der extant, and to add another would besuperfluous unless there be some goodgood reason. I think I have a reason, other-wise I would remain silent. The well is situated in a hill, in generalappearance exactly like many others, in thisimmediate vicinity, and one unacquaintedwith its locality would not be likely to findit, unless by accident, or by carefully fol-lowing directions. It is called a crater by some, but this,however, is a mistake, as there is nothingabout the well that would indicate that ithad such an origfin, but the indications are that the summit uf the hill had sunk, or thatwhe
