"Tractricious" an outdoor sculpture in front of the Fermilab Industrial Complex at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois. It is named for Fermilab's powerful particle accelerator, the Tevatron. The sculpture is comprised of 16 stainless steel outer tubes, made from scrap cryostat tubes from Tevatron dipole magnets, and 16 inner tubes, which are salvaged carbon steel pipes. Each outer tube is 39 ft long and 6-1/2 inches in diameter, and weighs 550 pounds each. The sculpture is 36 feet tall. Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), is a United States Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. Since 2007, Fermilab has been operated by the Fermi Research Alliance, a joint venture of the University of Chicago, and the Universities Research Association (URA).
