Nile flora and fauna, Roman mosaic. Mosaics consist of small pieces of coloured glass or stone, used to form an image or pattern on a floor or wall. This mosaic shows the flora and fauna found on the Nile River in Egypt. Animals and plants shown include ducks, water plants, birds and frogs. The mosaic is from the triclinium of the House of the Faun, Pompeii, and dates from the 1st century BC. It is displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy.
